Frank London

The Shvitz film is a 50 minute documentary which looks at urban life and the art of sweating through the remaining traditional steambaths or shvitzes. Entertaining, humourous and authentic, the film has won awards as one of the most creative short works of the year, and opened festivals both in the U.S. and internationally. The Shvitz was featured on the arthouse film circuit in 1994 as NY IN SHORT. Jonathan Berman, director of the film, chose to create an enviroment that reflected both his personal identification with the Jewish men's club ambience of the baths and the current diversity/trendiness of downtown life. Berman is currently producing a New York based feature film as well as a documentary about his friend a bank robber. Trumpeter/ Composer London tours and records with Les Miserables Brass Band, LL Cool J, They Might Be Giants, David Byrne, Lester Bowie, LaMonte Young, Mel Torme and others. In addtion to The Shvitz, his film scoring credits include the critically acclaimed short film The Debt., and The Brother From Another Planet.

Belle Epoque

"Belle Epoque is the story of Paradise: too good to last. It's about the discovery of life, but the real one, I mean: freedom, art, love, sex, friendship...all the things that make life interesting. It's an oasis... Maybe it's too idealistic, but I always thought one of the reasons for cinema was to give pleasure and happiness to the audience. I don't want to make people think about how miserable life is. I prefer to leave that for tomorrow. I like to hear the audience laughing in a dark theater. That's the best music for me."

- Fernando Trueba, director/producer of Belle Epoque

Arthur Honegger

"Arthur Honegger was a composer, conductor and accompanist, of Swiss Protestant parentage. He was born in Le Havre on March 10, 1892 but lived in Paris most of the time. He married Andree Vaurabourg, a pianist and fellow student at the Paris Conservatoire. They had one daughter, Pascale, born in 1932. He also had a son, Jean-Claude, with Claire Croiza, a singer.

He studied at the conservatory in Zürich from 1909 to 1911 and then to Paris Conservatoire (from 1911), where his teachers included d'Indy for orchestration and Widor for composition. Then he returned to Switzerland for military service (1914-1915). It was also in Paris where he met the other future members of the famous 'Les Six' composers including Milhaud and Poulenc. The other members of "Les Six" French composers were Tailleferre, Auric and Durey.

Honegger also pioneered "serious" film music. His scores included those for Abel Gance's masterpiece Napoleon and the 1934 French version of Les Miserables. His inluence on American film music can be seen mainly in the aims and work of Miklos Rózsa"

Kenyon Hopkins part 2

Lilith [Kenyon Hopkins] (Colpix Records 1964)

Vincent Bruce (Warren Beatty) is a Korean War veteran who becomes an occupational therapist in a private mental hospital that cares for wealthy, schizophrenic clientele. He slowly begins to fall for Lilith Arthur (Jean Seberg), a patient who is mentally locked in her own little world. Vincent eventually begins his own psychological disintegration over his feeling for the woman and asks for help. This depressing psychodrama was the final film for the gifted director Robert Rossen, who died in 1966.

This Property is Godemned [Kenyon Hopkins] (Verve Records 1966)

Alva (Natalie Wood) is a beautiful woman living in a small Mississippi town in the 1930s with her manipulative mother Hazel (Kate Reid), the owner of a boarding house. Hazel wants Alva to marry the well to do Mr. Johnson (John Harding), but Alva has fallen in love with a good-looking stranger from New Orleans, Owen Legate (Robert Redford), who is in Mississippi to lay off railroad workers. Hazel is opposed to their love affair and when Owen is beaten to a pulp by a gang of workers, he decides to leave town and take Alva with him. But Hazel fools Owen into thinking Alva is engaged to Mr. Johnson. In retaliation, Alva marries Hazel's loutish lover J.J. (Charles Bronson). The next day, she abandons J.J. to meet Owen in New Orleans. Her mother, incensed at Alva's betrayal, sets out to ruin her daughter's reputation by exposing her marriage to J.J. to the world.

Panic,The Son of Shock [Kenyon Hopkins & The Creed Taylor Orchestra] (ABC Paramount 1959)

Nightmare! [Kenyon Hopkins & The Creed Taylor Orchestra] (MGM Records 1962)

This trilogy of atmospheric horror albums could be purchased from ads in monster magazines and combined Kenyon Hopkins familiar jazz beat with spooky sound effects, gasps, groans and blood-curdling screams. These are the most well known and collectible records he made appearing as a "limited edition" (bootleg) CD several years ago on a label called "Fear."

Kenyon Hopkins

Ο ίδιος χαρακτηρίζει την μουσική του ως "smoky, gritty, rotten-to-the-core jazz" και ακούγωντας τους δίσκους απο ταινίες όπως :12 Angry Men (1957),The Hustler (1961),Lilith (1964),Mister Buddwing (1966),This Property Is Condemned (1966),νιώθεις αμέσως την μοναδική ατμόσφαιρα που δημιουργεί...μοναδικός.
