Jobim & Bonfa

One of the all time great ones! This mad bit of music was composed for the film by Luiz Bonfa and Antonio Carlos Jobim, and it's a crazy mix of batucada, samba, and a bit of bossa nova. The soundtrack takes all of the musical bits, and it mixes them up into an insane collage of sound effects, speaking, and music. It sounds incredible, and it's even more spooky than the movie. With loads of classics that you'll recognize -- but done in a crazy crazy way -- like "Felicidade", "O Nosso Amor", and "Manha De Carnaval". Plus, this CD also includes a 13-minute medley of tracks from the score, performed by Bola Sete at the 1966 Monterey Jazz Fest!

1960 Academy Award Winner and winner of the Palme d’Or at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival, Marcel Camus’ Black Orpheus retells the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice against the madness of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. With its magnificent color photography and lively soundtrack, this film brought the infectious bossa nova beat to the United States. Criterion is proud to present the extended international version of Black Orpheus in a gorgeous new transfer.
